Sierra Nevada is located 32 km from Granada and therefore about 42 km from our rural houses in Granada, Güevéjar, which is about 50 minutes by car. Sierra Nevada is a mountain range suitable for everyone, for the expert skier who looks for off-piste runs as well as for the skier making his or her debut, for those who love nature and the mountains, for those who like activities to enjoy the snow (Mirlo Blanco area) and for those who love the apres-ski... There are restaurants, bars and clubs open until the early hours... In Sierra Nevada, in addition to snow, we have plenty of sun and many activities to enjoy.
In Sierra Nevada we have the Mirlo Blanco area, with an ecological ice rink, archery, magic carpet, 130-meter slides, chair-ski, skate-ski or bike-ski... The newest activity is the Russian Sledge which is a roller coaster in the snow in which the user controls the speed of descent.
We must not forget snowboarding either. In Sierra Nevada, an area called Sulayr Snowpark has been created. It has the largest permanent halfpipe in Spain, snowboard-cross tracks, jumps and slopestyle modules for all levels and also for freestylers.
To ski we have 120 marked trails, distributed over 105 km of skiable areas. Sierra Nevada provides one of the biggest and most attractive ski areas in Southern Europe.
The winter resort of Sierra Nevada in Granada is the most southern resort on the continent. It stands out for having the biggest height difference in a skiable area in Spain (1,200 mt). Sierra Nevada is renowned for the width of its tracks and for the daily maintenance of the slopes (more than 389 hectares are evened out by machines) with slopes for all levels, clean, wide and without obstacles. Another important asset of this Granada station is the continuous modernization of its mechanical lifts, the new Borreguiles gondola lift... detachable chairlifts. The famous "Águila" slope, with 6 km of ski tracks and 1,200 mt. of height difference. Another recommendation is to take the La Laguna chairlift up to the 3,298-meter station and start a descent through the La Laguna area and contemplate the sea, the Mulhacén, the Alpujarras... the cloud ceiling, etc. For those who are not so fond of spending the hours and the ski pass only skiing, Sierra Nevada has various restaurants on the slopes: among them paella specialists, charcoal-grilled meats specialists, à la carte restaurants... If after the apres-ski you still have energy left, you should go to the Monteabajo Club. It has a very modern gym and a heated indoor pool with mountain views.
I must tell you that before going to Sierra Nevada, I imagined it to be different. A ski resort in Southern Europe... old ski lifts... but this is not the case. Sierra Nevada lives up to any ski resort in Europe in every way and it is the number one where the weather is concerned.
